Is military science fiction is your preferred genre of movies? Then the Stargate series are a must see and never mind that you missed seeing them, you can always get the Stargate DVD collection to watch at your convenience.

The first in this series of outstanding movies was simply titled Stargate and became a global hit and an instant box office success story.  Two more Stargate movies were made: Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum.  The sequel to Stargate was released three years later as a television series titled Stargate SG-1.  Other Stargate television serials are Stargate Infinity, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe.  All highly popular and the good news is you can buy all of the releases on DVD.

The Stargate direct to DVD releases include Stargate: The Ark of Truth, is a direct to DVD movie and is the conclusion of the television series Stargate SG-1’s Ori arc; it picks up after the series finale but the events in the movies take place before the fourth season of Stargate Atlantis.

Stargate Continuum is also a direct to DVD movie release that was launched in 2008.  It is a time travel adventure and the second sequel to Stargate SG-1, following after Stargate: The Ark of Truth.

In the making is the Stargate SG-1 pilot episode: ‘Children of the Gods’ that is being re-cut to be a direct to DVD movie with some never before seen brand new visual effects and scenes.  Also given the go ahead for a direct to DVD release is Stargate Atlantis.

Stargate has captured the hearts of its fans and most home theater buffs; it is one of the first and best releases in the DVD format.  If you can get a hold of the original Stargate DVD it will be well worth the effort.  The absolutely stunning 5.1 Dolby audio track separates the men from the boys!  The Stargate soundtrack composed by David Arnold heard in Dolby sound is amazing.  As the film progresses and the action heats up so does the sound, with the 5.1 track moving into high gear.  All the flying gliders, rattling of gunfire and exploding bombs make for awesome sound in this movie.

The Stargate special edition disc contains 9 minutes of extra footage of the film that was cut out from the original theater release.  These scenes are special and what make the film a special edition.  There’s not much more to the special edition really than some cut footage being added and minor additions to scenes through out the film.  On the original DVD release the scene selections were dropped in only a few general areas.  There’s a recorded commentary track from the producers on the DVD that is interesting.  To round out the DVD you have two theatrical trailers, production notes and cast and crew bios.  All of which makes for a very interesting movie session.

Without further ado, I recommend that you go online and start finding that Stargate special edition DVD to add to your collection.  You get it and you will suddenly find yourself with a whole bunch of new pals!

Stargate Atlantis, often abbreviated as SGA, is a Canadian-American military science fiction television series and part of MGM’s Stargate franchise. The show was created by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, as a spin-off series of Stargate SG-1 created by Wright and Jonathan Glassner after the release of Stargate (1994). The first three seasons of the television series were broadcast by Sci Fi Channel and The Movie Network before the series moved only to Sci Fi Channel for its last two seasons, meaning a release of 100 episodes before the series was cancelled. Stargate Atlantis premiered on Sci Fi Channel on July 16, 2004; its final episode premiered on Sci Fi Channel on January 9, 2009. The television series was filmed in and around Vancouver, Canada.

The story of Stargate Atlantis follows the cliffhanger episode on Stargate SG-1’s seventh season finale “Lost City”, where SG-1 found an outpost made by the race known as the Ancients in Antarctica. After the events of Stargate SG-1 season eight premiere “New Order”, the Stargate Command sends an international team to investigate the outpost. Soon, Dr. Daniel Jackson discovers the location of the greatest city created by the Ancients, Atlantis. The story unfolds when the members of the expedition encounter the Wraith, the race that defeated the Ancients ten thousand years ago.

The series was a ratings success for the Sci Fi Channel, and was particularly popular in Europe and Australia. Although it received little critical response, Stargate Atlantis was honored with numerous awards and award nominations in its five-season run. After Stargate Atlantis was cancelled, the show’s co-creators began working on the already conceptualized Stargate Universe which the network had approved to have a bigger budget, be less mythology dependent, and have more focus on character development. Stargate Universe was released on October 2, 2009. Merchandise for Stargate Atlantis includes games and toys, print media and an original audio series. A direct-to-DVD film entitled Stargate: Extinction is planned to be released.

Head over to http://www.24trailer.com/ and watch the extended trailer for season six of Fox’s hit 24. Jack Bauer, cult fave and all-around bad ass is back for yet another installation of A Series Of Unfortunate Events. On this day in particular it appears the latest bad guys are, again, the middle eastern dudes. The IMDb link for the premiere episode lists our favorite survivors of season five (RIP Edgar, you magnificent, fat bastard) as well as some blasts from the past, namely Arlo from season one who undoubtedly will be taking the aforeeulogized Edgar’s place as Chloe’s number one. And speaking of Star Trek references, Alexander Siddig is also in season 6. Alexander is best known as Dr. Bashir from DS9 and, more recently, that guy who looks like Dr. Baltar from Battlestar Galactica. Another addition is Kal Penn, of Harold and Kumar fame.
I’m sure we’ll have plenty of surprises this season.

Maybe in the end Jack will be dead, maybe not. The writers are gonna have to explain how many pairs of jeans the US had to give the Chinese to get Jack back from them.
