Big Brothers, Big Sisters is the oldest and most effective non-profit organization in the United States, whose mission is to help the children to achieve the best in their life through one-to-one relationship with mentors, who have a positive impact on youth. It is the largest youth mentoring organization in USA. It emphasizes on one-to-one youth service, developing positive relationship between mentors and young children.

Free To Be… You And Me- a children’s film from 1974. This is the thirteenth segment, called “Sisters and Brothers” This was my favorite school film from my childhood. Seeing it again brings back vivid memories and almost makes me cry. It seemed that nobody else had this up on here, so I had to do it! Enjoy!

Oh Sally Field how much I do love thee, Let me count the ways. I got into the show Brothers and Sisters a little late and have not missed a single week. Last night was the best re-run episode I have ever seen. Saul, Nora’s brother put together an assessment of her late husband’s property, there was a quant house in it and Nora makes a big deal to go over and see her property. So, she does a tour of the house and makes friendly with the tenant, asks her about decorating how long she’s lived there (15 years). Finds out she was in a few movies as small roles and more small talk. Later Kitty (Calista Flockhart) finds out from Justin who found out from uncle Saul that his father was having an affair with Holly. One thing leads to another and every one knows but Nora.
Nora’s husband had a heart attack while swimming and one of the younger grand daughter’s saw the event. No one has been in the pool or swimming at all since then. Nora decides its time to move on and invites the whole extended family over and a few guests. She invites Holly over and makes a big deal of all the TV shows she was on this after noon when she put her name into the DVR as an actress. She tries to hook Holly up with Saul saying how pretty she is, great actress, decorator yadda, yadda, yadda, I have other things to do…
The sit down to the table when Kitty’s guest Warren and Nora are at the end of the table and everyone else isn’t saying a damn peep. Warren asks why we are the only one talking and Nora busts out only the way that Sally Field can “They all think that I don’t know that my husband had an affair with that woman holly over there. Along with a cunning little cottage built for two to go with it…. Yes Warren you see they all think that I’m living in the dark. And in their panic and obliviousness and eagerness to handle me, they’ve lost their very basic ability to function in a social circumstance. It’s very sad. But there it is.”
And there it is, how Holly got bitch slapped from the leading lady, in front of guests. If you like the dysfunction that rivals Roseanne, Family Ties, the Simpson’s and Queer as Folk you will love this show. Yes it has queers in it, yes it has Sally Field, Calista Flockhart, and cute boys. But it also shows what happens to a family when the father dies and leaves the family to clean up the mess and stick together.
